Project TimeB and I have started taking one night each week to work on projects that we have been wanting to do but never seem to have the time or energy to do them.

Scheduling it in seems to help. We’re two weeks in and it’s been a lot of fun.

We started out working on individual projects, but are now talking about combining our efforts for several weeks on an idea that we’ve both had in mind for some time. We’re not ready to talk about it in detail yet but we’re both excited about it and we feel like it has real potential.

Stay tuned….

Already An Old-Timer

I love how my son sometimes lets his pacifier hang halfway out of his mouth as if it were a cigar.

From the most beautiful wind maps you’ll likely see, ever:

This is something I am learning:  If I’m stumped, I have an assumption somewhere. Like a little thorn stuck in you, you’ve got to pull the assumption out.

Current Inspirations, Part II

Rework bookRework book

My brother Andrew ( lent me the book Rework, written by 37signals. It is an inspiring collection of unorthodox business lessons, presented in very-short-chapter format and each accompanied with a graphic illustrating the point.

I think this one is a”must read” for entrepreneurs. And it’s such an easy read, and so inspiring, that I’ve been using it as kind of a “business devotional”–reading a chapter or two on the mornings that I don’t feel like starting work. It’s a great dose of inspiration in an easy-to-swallow pill.

Current Inspirations, Part I

I’m finding myself being inspired this week by several things, the first of which is this:

Modern Tribe Inc. is inspirational in many ways. As a solopreneur who is just starting to grow beyond freelancing, perusing their blog is like dipping my hand into a deep bowl of candy. Yum.

Happy 1st Birthday Liliana!

Lili's birthday picnic in the park

Liliana Sigrid’s 1st birthday is today! We went to the park for a picnic lunch. It was a beautiful day and it’s been a really great first year with Lili! We’re having a party for her later so there will be more photos to come.

It Makes Me So Angry

It makes me so angry when I see pro-life groups who show no compassion for hurting women (and men).

It makes me so angry when I see pro-choice groups who show no temperance for those who disagree with them.

It makes me so angry when people are so blinded by their own ideals that they don’t have the capacity to see the other side of the story — they don’t see the person who may be hurt by their words or the complexity of the issues that surround us.

Walk a mile in their shoes. It’s not that hard to do.

It makes me so angry when people are not willing to listen to another perspective.

Be Boring Poster

On Saturday we dropped Liliana off with her auntie and headed to John’s shop to do some letterpress printing. John has been generous about letting us play with all his presses and type.

I printed a simple grey poster with a quote by author Austin Kleon.

At one point John questioned me, “Did you ask permission to use this quote?” I replied, “Well, the name of his latest book is called ‘Steal Like An Artist’, so I don’t think he’ll mind….”

Bethany printed some really nice decorative cards in blue and red using a peacock design and the letter “A” for the first letter of our last name.

A is for Anderson

Thank you John for your generosity, and thank you Austin for the great line.

It’s Good to Be Alive

On the way back from skiing last weekend with two friends, our SUV slid on an icy patch and we rolled down the embankment and came to rest beside the railroad tracks by the river. Everyone was okay except for some glass cuts on the driver’s hands.

This is the glass that was caught in the hood of my coat when we rolled.

Since we were all okay we decided to pose with the truck.

We avoided the upright railroad ties by just a few feet. We rolled down the embankment, the tracks are from the tow truck pulling our SUV out.

The day after the accident I went back to look at the spot. This train operator pulled up in his train and stopped to ask us about it.

“We might be broke, but we have ideas. I would rather it this way than to be rich and not have any ideas.”
